Big Data: The prime Focus of a Data Scientist

by No Comments

Big data is the field that deals with data sets that are too large or complex to be dealt with by traditional data-processing application software. The number of avenues that data can be gathered from is always growing and becoming easier to access the emergence of Data Science has been primarily due to the burgeoning growth of data across companies, internet, raising computer power, etc. For instance, today an estimated 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created daily.

Enter data scientists. Big data has helped businesses see profit increases of 8-10 percent, making the ability to prepare, store, process and manage data highly desired traits. These data management skills are applicable across industries, including:

  • Health
  • Finance
  • Retail
  • Transport

A data scientist’s role

The three categories of big data

  1. Structured data — sorted as an exemplary in a database or spreadsheet (data warehouse), which is easy to search (e.g. a sales order record with purchase dates, item lists, purchase details, and total cost).
  2. Unstructured data — raw data that is difficult to search, and not a pre-defined data model (e.g. text messages, emails, phone recordings).
  3. Semi-structured data — a combination of both structured and unstructured data (e.g. a photograph on a smartphone, capturing the unstructured binary data of light reflection information and the structured information such as time of capture and image size.).

Preparing big data

Preparing big data and its relevant models or algorithms is an important first step for data scientists. It involves liaising with key stakeholders in your business to find out exactly what they want from your analysis. This helps guide and inform how you execute the entire process, identifying what analytical tools are the best fit for your business’ goals.

This process is also your responsibility at the end of a project, as you will use data visualization tools to present findings. These tools enable data to be presented in more accessible and engaging forms like graphs, charts, and infographics.

Storing big data

As a data scientist, your storage solutions not only need to handle large amounts of data but must also have the flexibility to expand to accommodate the constant stream of new information. You need to ensure that storage provides the necessary high level of input/output operations per second (IOPS).

Whether opting for a hyper-scale computing environment used by large corporations or the more traditional clustered network attached storage (NAS), your job is to help the storage to handle large data sets quickly.

Processing big data

Data scientists also need to be able to process the data. With the need to divide bigger data streams into smaller and easier to decipher information — finding patterns and outliers that give your business key information. This can help identify cybersecurity threats and fraudulent behavior, finding irregular user actions among data patterns and halting threats before they happen. One data processing solution is via open-source software such as Hadoop, which is used by corporations including Yahoo, eBay, Amazon, Facebook, and Twitter.

Advancing your data science skills

Being a good data scientist means continually working your coding and business skills, such as stakeholder management and decision-making, your mathematical and statistical skills and your ability to communicate key data insights to your audiences effectively. A Master of Data Science can help you learn and realize that investing in a career and being good at what you do, like any career, is dependent on your ability to invest your time and energy to continually improve your skills. In data science, this can be everything from coding, business skills, and mathematical and statistical abilities. Like any career, your skillset is always a work in progress.

SEO : Making First Page is an important matter

by No Comments

An E-Commerce Times poll was conducted from March 25 to April 1 of this year and in that survey only 4.32 percent of respondents said there was always enough information on the first page of search results to meet their needs. By comparison, 14.05 percent said they found the first-page search results were rigged and limited by algorithmic highlights.

More than one quarter, 25.41 percent, said even if the first page provided enough information, there was still reason to see what else might be available. Twenty percent said they usually found enough on the first page but sometimes wanted to see more. A total of 36.22 percent of respondents said if they saw too many paid-for results, or if they didn’t find an answer on the first page, they’d go deeper.

Although ECT News Network reader surveys   are not intended to be scientific, the results of the SEO poll are particularly interesting because they contrast so sharply with the standard search engine optimization (SEO) pitch — which is that hitting the first page is absolutely necessary.

“In the SEO industry we say, ‘If you want to bury a body, put it on page two,'” said Andrew Shotland, CEO of the Local SEO Guide.

“There are definitely clicks that happen beyond page one of Google results, but it’s a significantly lower percentage,” he told the E-Commerce Times. “In general, no one is ‘shooting for page two’ unless they are on page three.”

Getting the coveted first page isn’t impossible, but there is work to it — a lot of work. Understanding how search engines function is crucial, and this is why there are now many firms that specialize in SEO.

“What’s important to remember about the way Google’s algorithm works is, if your best result isn’t on the first page, it’s failed,” maintained Eric Yaverbaum, CEO of New York public relations firm Ericho Communications.

Google’s first metric is always relevance; it serves up optimally relevant content for the plain intention of your search, observed Yaverbaum.

“I hesitate to say that second- and third-page results have no value, but ask yourself how often you click past the first page,” he told the E-Commerce Times.

“Google is quite good at not only delivering search results, but answering questions without you even needing to click on a result,” Yaverbaum added. “That’s critical here — Google as question-answerer more than a search engine. That means anything that doesn’t accomplish that simple goal immediately gets shunted off the first page. Which means you rarely need to dive deeper.”

The right SEO campaign can help make a difference, of course, but much of the discussion today revolves around Google. The question is how to get equal or even better rankings on the other search engines — notably Microsoft’s Bing.

They don’t have the reach of Google, and in the past striving for a top rating on one could impact your ranking on another. That has changed in recent years, however.

“Regarding targeting other non-Google search engines, each engine has its own algorithms, but there aren’t many things I would say to do specifically for any search engine other than Google,” said Local SEO Guide’s Shotland.

“All of them are based on the following high-level principles: Get relevant links from other sites to your pages; provide content on your pages that answer searchers’ questions/needs, etc.; make sure your content is both accessible and easily understood by machines,” he said.

“For DuckDuckGo specifically, we see that getting referenced on other sites it uses as data sources makes it more likely your content will appear in that index and rank well,” Shotland pointed out.

“For Bing, we see making it easy for Bing to find only the content you want it to use and none of the no-SEO-value URLs seems to work well,” he added. “Search engines have to look at trillions of Web pages to find good content, so making it easy for them to find your content is critical.”

AI-Enabled CRM the Best Way to Satisfy the Customers

by No Comments

In the tech world, Artificial intelligence is a commonly known word. AI is the simulation of human intelligence processes performed by machines or computer systems. The entire world is getting replaced by AI Technology. In our recent article, we have mentioned the support of AI in the supermarket. Most of the many jobs previously held by humans, and while this concept may sound futuristic and even scary to many, there’s no need to panic.

Most AI functions are designed to make life easier. Whether you know it or not, most of us use AI in some form every day. Only 33 percent of people think they use AI, according to one study, but in reality, more than 77 percent use some form of AI-powered devices or services.

For example, AI is used by most banks to personalize your experience on their mobile apps, while music services use AI to track your listening habits and then use that data to suggest other songs you may like to hear.

AI and Predictive Lead Scoring

AI can be beneficial when used in systems and applications by automating repetitive, menial tasks that people used to do manually, thereby increasing company productivity and profitability.

Sales and marketing tools such as customer relationship management (CRM) software or sales automation platforms that contain AI technology not only can do simple, tedious tasks such as data entry, but also can identify patterns and trends in that data in just seconds, and tell users how best to use it.

With real-time information, sales teams become better equipped to service customers, respond to requests or challenges, and even predict customer buying behaviors. Understanding customer expectations and knowing how to manage them in advance is important not only for the timely delivery of existing products but also for the promotion of new ones that customers may want or need downstream.

AI has one such ability that can offer a CRM is predictive lead scoring. Lead scoring is a way businesses and organizations identify and prioritize the highest-quality leads for their salespeople to connect with through a type of scoring system. As a business grows, this helps salespeople manage their time and pursue those leads that make the most sense.

Lead scoring with AI uses algorithms instead of people to predict which leads to a business’ database are qualified. Not all parameters are the same when predicting lead scores. AI easily can factor in information such as forms completed on your website, behavioral data, social media information, demographics, and even external information posted about your company.

With AI for predictive lead scoring, algorithms evaluate what information your customers have in common, as well as what information your leads that did not convert have in common. From there, the algorithm determines a formula that will organize leads for you automatically, so you easily can identify the most qualified ones. Imagine having to do this manually, and you can understand why AI is important for predictive lead scoring.

AI and Sales Forecasting

Sales forecasting is the process of estimating or looking ahead to sales downstream. Accurate sales forecasts can help companies make data-driven business decisions and predict performance both in the short and long term.

Sales forecasts can be based on industry comparisons, market trends, or even past sales data. With AI, companies can gain a better understanding of future revenue, improve resource allocation, better align teams with objectives, and calculate growth models.

If setting prediction parameters around your sales pipeline is difficult or unclear, or if sales forecasting is inaccurate, despite lots of legacy or current CRM data, you may need AI support in this regard.

AI and Natural Language Processing

A powerful feature of AI-enabled CRM is natural language processing (NLP). There are several ways people define NLP, but most tend to describe it as the ability of computers to understand and interpret human language the way it is written or spoken.

When a machine processes texts or spoken words from humans, they’re looking at data in 1s and 0s and not really hearing words. For AI to understand what you’re saying and turn those words into action, NLP comes into play. Definitions aside, NLP can be used in several ways to enhance customer experience through a CRM.

For example, it can be used to determine what customers want from an email or text-based message. Customers or prospects often make similar requests through emails. A financial-based organization, for example, may receive daily messages from customers requesting new checks, or to open a new account, apply for a new credit card, or report a stolen card. Natural language processing can scan these messages and begin working on them before sales and customer support get involved.

What’s more, NLP then can determine which customer requests to prioritize. Reporting a stolen card is clearly more urgent than needing new checks. NLP can push customer and prospect requests that are urgent or time-sensitive to the front of the line, where sales and customer service can respond quickly.

When enabled through AI, NLP also can examine customer email interactions to get a better understanding of their experience, whether positive or negative. An organization that leverages insights in this way can remedy customer issues quickly before they escalate.

AI Tracking

Sales departments also can use AI to record voice meetings and phone calls, time-stamp specific notes, obtain transcripts and even identify topics or words of specific meaning — like “budget,” “pricing” or “actions items” — or even target specific people. Sales teams then can return to exact moments in conversations after the call, glean specific insights, and combine them with existing CRM data to determine the best course of action.

Going deeper, AI can be used to analyze speaking patterns, word choices, or voice inflections to determine a caller’s emotions and offer resolution recommendations to sales reps, which could include telling users to slow speech pace, soften their tone, or even prompt supervisors to get involved when necessary.

One of the best ways for businesses to understand the needs of their customers is through tracking feedback, which can be collected through questionnaires, reviews, online comments and more.

A well-constructed survey can provide insightful and quantitative data, discover problems or challenges, and ultimately help a business gauge its progress or improvement over time. AI technology cannot only streamline customer feedback programs and tactics but also help companies eliminate unnecessary actions by evaluating communications that happen naturally every day.

At their core, CRMs are designed to store customer information and lots of it. AI easily can be applied to keeping customer records and information up to date, with little human help or data entry. These days, there is significantly more information than name, address, phone number and email that can be harvested and added to a customer’s profile, including social media channels, applications used, and even popular geolocation visits.

While AI can help sales teams dig through industry and social media data, it also can help companies properly allocate dollars to increase account-based marketing’s return on investment. Sales leaders can be handed high-value accounts or prospects that meet very specific criteria, as well as search for others that are actively looking to buy. This can help marketers focus on marketing and advertising funds toward prospects with the highest buying interest and prioritize engaged leads.

Who Needs AI?

Now that we’ve touched on a few ways AI can be leveraged in your business’ CRM system, the question is, do you really need it — or is it just another superfluous addition that won’t provide you with any real value? Not surprisingly, the answer depends on your business.

The common denominator, however, is this: The more data your business collects about customers and prospects, the greater the need for a CRM solution that can not only analyze all the data but also provide useful insights and recommendations.

The move toward more powerful and more efficient CRM systems that reduce costs and save time is now possible thanks to AI. In today’s digital age, prompt, personalized and predictive services are essential to guaranteeing customer satisfaction and creating brand loyalty.

Businesses that utilize the full power of their CRM will find value in an integrated AI tool. On the other hand, organizations that struggle with their CRM, or with figuring out if they need one, likely will find AI confusing and unnecessary.

At the end of the day, CRM and AI are just tools from the sales and marketing toolbox. Neither replaces a thoughtful marketing strategy targeted at the right time, at the right audiences, and in the right context.

Conversely, a solid marketing strategy is only as good as the technology it sits on. Before leaping into the AI waters, master the fundamentals of your existing CRM. Once you’ve done that, unleashing the power of AI will help strengthen your sales and marketing teams and improve customer satisfaction

The Gatekeeper of Web: CHROME

by No Comments

CHROME was once an underdog browser now labeled ‘spyware,’ ‘monopolist’. When Samuel Maddock built a browser that lets friends watch an online video at the same time, he used what seemed like the cheapest and simplest option: Chromium, a free, open-source version of Google’s Chrome Web browser.

“You have these gatekeepers like Google that decide which projects can work and if you’re not granted that permission you’re screwed,” Maddock said.

Google products have been as successful as Chrome. Launched in 2008, it has more than 63% of the market and about 70% on desktop computers, according to StatCounter data. Mozilla’s Firefox is far behind, while Apple’s Safari is the default browser for iPhones. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Edge browsers are punch lines.

Google won by offering consumers a fast, customizable browser for free while embracing open Web standards. Now that Chrome is the clear leader, it controls how the standards are set. That’s sparking concern Google is using the browser and its Chromium open-source underpinnings to elbow out online competitors and tilt entire industries in its favor.

Most major browsers are now built on the Chromium software code base that Google maintains. Even Microsoft is making the switch this year. That creates a snowball effect, where fewer Web developers build for niche browsers, leading those browsers to switch over to Chromium to avoid getting left behind.

This leaves Chrome’s competitors relying on Google employees who do most of the work to keep Chromium software code up to date. Chromium is open source, so anyone can suggest changes to it, but the majority of programmers who approve contributions are Google employees, and any major disagreements get settled by a small circle of senior Google employees.

Chrome is so ascendant these days that Web developers often don’t bother to test their sites on competing browsers. Google services including YouTube, Docs, and Gmail sometimes don’t work as well on rival browsers, sending frustrated users to Chrome. Instead of just another ship slicing through the sea of the Web, Chrome is becoming the ocean.

“Whatever Chrome does is what the standard is, everyone else has to follow,” said Andreas Gal, the former chief technology officer of Mozilla.

“We take it seriously, the responsibility of being good stewards of the Web,” said Darin Fisher, a vice president of engineering on the Chrome team. Google’s business relies on the Web working for as many people as possible, so the company doesn’t have an interest in squashing competition, he said.

Even if it isn’t trying to sabotage competing browsers, Google has a financial motivation to dominate the market, Gal said. He now works at Apple after selling his startup Silk Labs to the iPhone maker in 2018.

“In the past, there were these three, four major players with somewhat equivalent share between Microsoft and Google and Mozilla and Apple and nobody had this very clear advantage,” he said. “Today, especially in the desktop space, Google is definitely a monopolist.”

Earlier this month, Google announced a long-awaited decision on how Chrome handles online tracking software known as cookies. Other browsers have blocked third-party cookies by default, but Google chose to let users decide — and due to its dominance that will likely be the standard going forward. Shares of Criteo SA, a digital ad company that relies on cookies, jumped almost 10% on the news, the biggest gain in over a year.

“Chrome has become spyware,” said Brendan Eich, co-founder of Mozilla and the current CEO of Brave Software Inc.

Brave offers a browser that blocks ads and Web tracking software, and it is developing a system that pays users small amounts when they visit certain sites. This could upend the internet advertising business. The only catch is that the Brave browser is built on Chromium.

Even when people choose to download a competitor to Chrome, Google has ways to encourage them to come back. Vivaldi, a popular browser for the privacy-conscious crowd, has had trouble when it comes to running Google services like Docs and Gmail, said CEO Jon von Tetzchner. Some users logging into Google products on Vivaldi get prompt saying their browser isn’t optimized for them or suggesting they download Chrome instead.

Winning the browser war has done a lot more for Google than just allow it to create a friendly space for its other Web services. When Chrome users are logged-in to a Google account, the company can follow them around the Web, cataloging what sites they visit. All the data help Google’s ad products improve.

Fisher, the Chrome executive, said the Web needs advertising to keep it affordable for people who might not be able to pay publishers and other website owners for access.

“Chrome is independent of the ads group, but of course we collaborate with them, we both have a shared goal of a free and open Web,” Fisher said.”Part of making the Web really great is that there’s a diversity of content for users to consume.”

Diversity of browsers is another matter. If Microsoft, the world’s largest software maker, needs Chromium, it’s hard to imagine Google losing its grip any time soon.

Artificial Intelligence is Refurbishing the Workforce

by No Comments

Walmart last month announced that shoppers soon might see a lot more robots in its stores — but the company wasn’t referring to toy robots or even human assistant gadgets that are available for purchase. Walmart’s new robots will be taking over repeatable, predictable and manual tasks that up to now have been carried out by human employees.

At Walmart stores, robots will scan shelf inventory and track boxes as part of the retail chain’s inventory management. Walmart is hardly alone in deploying robots or artificial intelligence to handle these mundane tasks, however. Amazon has increased the use of AI in managing its facilities, and in the not-too-distant future, many employees can expect to work side-by-side with such machines on a daily basis.

Roughly 36 million Americans hold jobs that have a high exposure to automation, according to a January report from the Brookings Institution.

Upwards of 70 percent of tasks done by human workers soon could be performed by machines. This shift could affect not only factory and retail workers, but cooks, waiters and others in food services, as well as short-haul truck drivers and even clerical office workers.

The timeline could be from the next few years to the next two decades, according to the Brookings study, but economic factors likely will play a major role. An economic downturn, which could compel corporations to seek ways to reduce costs, could result in layoffs, with workers replaced by machines. This has happened in past recessions, so it is safe to assume that the impact could be more severe with the next downturn.

Virtual Reality is Changing Healthcare Sector

by No Comments

What if your surgeon told you that they’ve stood inside of your heart?

Your first intuition would probably be to tell them that they’re crazy. It isn’t possible physically but technically yes. That’s who far the technology has gone.  And people are applying it in some really fascinating ways these days.

Next thing you know they’re bringing in a headset. They put it over your eyes and suddenly you’re staring at a human heart. The surgeon then shows you the issue, what they’ll be doing to fix it, and why. You’ll be able to walk through, first hand, what is and what will be happening to you or a loved one thanks to the Stanford Virtual Heart.

How would that make you feel?

It’s not only one of our most crucial organs, but also one of the most complicated. Aside from keeping that beat for years, even the process the heart goes through to form in utero leaves a lot of space for abnormality, and it happens a lot — every year about 40,000 people are born with congenital heart defects (CHDs) in the United States alone.

But it’s a pretty difficult organ to study in action, considering the person needs to be on the table with their chest splayed open… which isn’t really a readily available learning tool for students, since open chest surgery isn’t on the top of most individuals’ favorite activities.

And how do you go about explaining what’s happening to the family members? How do the parents of the children born with heart defects even begin to try to understand an organ that doctors have spent years studying? Well, what about an interactive visual? It seems like the perfect home for our friend, virtual reality (VR).

Here’s where theStanford Virtual Heart comes in…

Pediatric cardiologists are utilizing VR at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford to make it easier to communicate and understand what’s happening with these complicated CHDs. Spend a moment with this video from seeker to see how the program works, how it’s being applied, and the true benefits of bringing this technology into healthcare!

Galaxy S10’s for the life of your eyes

by No Comments

If you are a person who loves to be in bed with phone, you will definitely know the trouble of falling asleep at night. Now the worries are gone Samsung introducing Galaxy S10’s Display Protects Users from Blue Light.

According to new findings from Counterpoint Research, more than five hours a day is spend by nearly half of all global smartphone users on their mobile device.

Once the sun set smartphone users will be on, studies show that the blue light from your smartphone’s screen and other artificial light sources can throw your biological clock out of whack – making it harder to fall asleep, and possibly causing more serious problems down the line.

Samsung equipped the Galaxy S10 line with a display that reduces users’, for safeguard users’ eyes from blue light are potentially harmful effects.

Exposure to blue light wavelengths – without compromising picture quality is the best solution.

The Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S10e and Galaxy S10 5G’s Dynamic AMOLED display was built from the ground up to minimize eye strain so users can get a better night’s sleep.

Galaxy S10 users can sleep soundly knowing that their smartphone’s display has been certified by world-renowned testing firm TÜV Rheinland1 to drastically reduce blue light’s harmful effects. When building the display, which received TÜV Rhineland’s official ‘Eye Comfort’ certification, Samsung applied new organic materials that reduce blue light wavelengths measuring between 415 and 455nm (the range that research2 suggests is particularly harmful to the retina) by up to 42 percent3 – without the use of filters.

This significant reduction in blue light transmission is the product of Samsung’s continuous commitment to developing industry-leading AMOLED technology. The Dynamic AMOLED display reduces the transmission of ‘harmful’ blue light (wavelengths in the 415 to 455nm range) to below 7 percent – the industry’s lowest mark. This means that the Galaxy S10’s display reduces nearly 50 percent more blue light than previous AMOLED displays (approx. 12 percent), and more than 60 percent more than most smartphone LCD displays (approx. 18 percent).

As ByungChang Kwak of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Division explained, in addition to opting for a blue-light reducing smartphone like the Galaxy S10, there are simple things that consumers can do to help protect their eyes when using electronics devices. “For example, adjusting ambient lighting to minimize screen glare can help reduce eye strain,” said Kwak, “and remembering to blink frequently can help prevent dry eye.”

Going forward, Kwak added, “Samsung will continue to develop technologies that promote better health and make the user experience more convenient.”

India’s 5G push! Excitingly waiting for Nokia Software’s

by No Comments

India’s 5G telecom network is the most awaited project for Nokia Software. Deploying 5G networks commercially in the United States, South Korea, and Japan has made a case for cooperating in the pilot runs citing its expertise.

“India is both a very important talent base and large, the local market for us,” said Bhaskar Gorti, President of Nokia Software, adding that the business was a hidden jewel of the telecom infrastructure and networking major.

“5G is actually an end-to-end scenario. You not only have to upgrade the radio, but you also have to upgrade the backhaul, you have to upgrade the edge and core networking and access networking, then you have to upgrade that fiber in the last mile,” Gorti said. “We have a unique advantage that we have homegrown native technologies in every part of that value chain.”

5G, unlike technologies before it, isn’t reliant only on hardware. In fact, experts believe that improvements in networking speeds and capabilities will come from software embedded within the hardware. Theevolving technology will shift the power of development to countries such as India which have excelled in building a base of networking software specialists.

Nokia is also looking to build cloud-based solutions that leverage the advantages of 5G such as low-latency and high throughput, broadening its services base beyond being a mere network solutions provider. A large chunk of this work is being handled by Nokia’s India unit.
